My school reunion is coming up in 10 weeks. Eek. It's been 75 years since I left school, and about 74 years since I've seen any old school friends {dates approximate}. Must say that I'm glad there hasn't been a reunion earlier because I probably would have found myself fretting and dieting myself into a frenzy for it. Now I'm happy to acknowledge that I'm not the skinny girl who left high school. I'm also not the insecure girl with the self-esteem issues that went along with that size 10 clothing tag.
Nope, I'll be happy to frock up in something fabulous {do you think I could find some 50s Dior divinity at my local op-shops?} and look forward to catching up with some old {literally} friends.
I wonder who'll have invented post-its...
We have a reunion this year too. I'm skipping. Many reasons- lack of funding, lack of desire to see old classmates, lack of self confidence, but most importantly, lack of desire to travel 9+ hours for a few hours of catching up at "The Bar" in my old hometown. (That's seriously the only bar in towns name and it's where EVERY reunion is held, because my old hometown is a town of drunks with no originality.)
ReplyDeleteI have my 20 year reunion in May. We have had a 5 year and a 15 year - and I didn't attend either.
ReplyDeleteAm considering attending the 20 year one but I keep in contact with all the people from school that I was/am friends with and to be honest - I don't really care that much about the rest of them...
Gosh, how rude I am...
wow - I missed my 20 year reunion last year. Did you read the article by mia freedman in the Age Mag a few weeks ago? Talking about how reunions take you right back to being and insecure teenager. Funny stuff.
ReplyDeleteEeeeek I have one of mine this year too! And it will be my first too. You know what? You ARE fabulous and I don't know about you, but I wouldn't want to be my 18 year old self again. NO WAY. NO HOW. I'm sure you will have a grand old time laughing with some old mates. They will be lining up to chat with the fanous journo and blogger....just you wait and see!
ReplyDeleteHave fun at your reunion! Wearing something 50s sounds fabulous. I've never been to any of my reunions. I'm happy to leave the past behind!
ReplyDeletehmmmm, I have a reunion this year as well. I haven't kept in touch with any school friends from this school but the thought of going back is kinda tempting. I suspect as it gets closer it's not going to look so appealing.
ReplyDeleteIt's my 20 year reunion next year and I can't wait! I was one of the organisers of the ten year reunion and it was so much fun seeing what everyone looked like, hearing what they've done with their lives. Oh, and of course the geekiest girl in school turned up as a stunning blonde with a knockout body. I can't wait to see what's evolved over another ten years!
ReplyDeletewow girls, can't believe the amount of 20 year reunions in there! Sara Rose, I can't imagine traveling over nine hours to go to a bar - no matter who was waiting {hold on, Johnny Depp, on a barstool...}
ReplyDeleteMegs - that's not rude - that's just normal!
Yes Caz, I just revisited Mia's article on-line - so true. A few years back I would have felt that way, now, curiosity's getting the better of me!
Oh Beth, you're a doll - and there is NO WAY I'd want to be 18 again {not with the boyfriend I had at the time!}
Wini, a fabulous frock is the way to go isn't it? I felt the same as you did for years, but maybe I'm softening in my old age - and seeing a few old friends on facebook has made me more interested in checking things out. My high school was hideous so I'd be keen to see how many rose above a dreadful education!
Yep Vicki, cut to me in a few weeks time...
Wow Kellyansapansa - one of the organisers! You're a brave woman. If you can do that a simple wedding'll be a piece of cake {a pretty tasty cake though I'd imagine!}
