do you like nana stuff?

I am a bit of a nana. I have a crazy amount of cardigans, love a floral print and LOVE nana flowers such as hydrangeas. Sadly, I've yet to be able to grow hydrangeas here. For some reason they just won't survive the first season. But I NEEEEEEED them. I love their hues, and how they fade away to the prettiest shades.

I'm thrilled that it's coming into winter and the season for my other nana fave - pansies. Oh, the pretty face of a pansy - is there anything more delightful? I'm sure there's more. Tell me more.

What are your fave nana flowers?

  1. I love carnations and think they smell beautiful even if they're such a daggy, gawky flower. I love all cottage-y nana-y flowers, but carnations seem to get a terrible rap (I blame the 80s).

Alyssum too. It smells like honey and spring.

    1. Oh Jenn, carnations are totally back in vogue - have you seen the amazing ball bouquets people are making with them? Divine.

I love alyssum too. It's so under-rated because it's so easy to grow, but it's ever-so-gorgeous.

  2. I like them so much that I've resorted to having a nana style dried bunch of hydrangeas in my lounge room. G.x

  3. Oh I'm SUCH a nana. Skip laughs at my love of cardigans and tea in a floral bone china cup.

My favourite flowers of all time are sweet peas. I love the softness and the scent. Thankfully they are out when it's my birthday cause I always get a bunch. x

  4. I ADORE hydrangeas! Have you tried growing them in pots? That's how I do mine... And then give them a big prune after flowering.
Love Pansy's too. Must buy some! And I love violets.
Nana flowers are gorgeous - I love most things Nana actually! x

  5. Lime, lime and more lime! And mix it with black sand. My Grandma and great Aunt grew multitudes of hydrangeas in beautiful hues of pink, mauve and blue. You can get a certain colour by the blend of soil apparently.

But you will kill me when I told you I ripped them all out at my cottages.

    Sorry.

    1. I think you've hit on my problem. Our soil is really clay-filled - I'll bet that's the problem. I've got a spot I'm going to lime and black sand and give it a shot. (and I'm ignoring your second last sentence - I will forgive you because you're fabulous) x

    2. Our soil was the same. But I remember being a kid and watching my Grandma dig the sand and lime in until she was happy with the mix.

And yes, I am fabulous. As are you. x

  9. Nanna flowers are by far my favourites. Hydrangeas are number one. And roses and peonies and freesias and... all the nanna stuff!

I'm not particularly nannaish in other aspects, although I rock a good homemade cardi. x

    1. Home-made cardis? Get out! Mine are all purchased, but I do have quite a few - even short-sleeved ones for summer x

  10. Yep, I'm a regular granny too! Though until you posed this question, I hadn't thought of myself in that way. But I DO have a lot of cardi's, love floral prints and adore all the old school flowers, like hydrangeas and roses and pansies and petunias. The one thing I won't do that is Nana, is wear Nana fragrances... some of those scents still make me heave! xo

    1. Like the Yardley fragrances? I swear I bought my nana every single one of those. And Charlie. And 4711.

    2. That's it! 4711! I couldn't think of the name, but totally remember the bottle. My Nana looooooved that one. Oh no, I'll take Chanel and Gucci and Marc Jacobs any day, thankyouverymuch xo

  11. Hydrangeas are my favourite. We stayed at a place in berry recently wher they had a gazillion hydrangeas in the garden. I figured for the amount of $$$ we were paying they wouldn't mind if I picked a few........or more. I am also a sucker for lavender soap in my undies drawer. :-)

  12. Jonquils. I adore jonquils. I even have a special vase in my retreat reserved just for them.

  13. I'm in love with hydrangeas. I think I even did a couple of posts about how much I loved them a couple of years ago. :) And they have their own board in my pinterest.

I love any flower that you'd find in an English Cottage Garden. Are they nana flowers?
